View from the vicinity of Cabeça Fundão down the S slopes of the island to the village of Achada Fuma and the Atlantic Ocean. The cone in the upper centre of the image indicates the volcanic origin of the island, even though signs of fluvial erosion suggest the lack of very recent eruptions. The lush green of the vegetation only persists for few months each year. After the short rainy season, colours quickly turn to yellowish and brownish in October or November, and remain so until the following August.
