Erg Chebbi represents one of two large dune fields in the Moroccan part of the Sahara desert, with dunes reaching a maximum height of approx. 150 m. The dunes' slopes are in a fragile equilibrium, so that small disturbances (such as caused by visitors climbing the dunes) result in sand flows.
