Tar River mouth | New land

WI_la435.jpg

View in N direction. The reactivation of the Soufrière Hills Volcano in 1995 has resulted in major changes in the landscape in the following years and decades. Pyroclastic flows and lahars have created new land in the E part of Montserrat since 1996. A huge cone of volcanic material has formed at the former mouth of the Tar River. It is slowly eroded by fluvial processes and the sea.
