The heathlands occupying the E slopes of Mt. Kenya at approx. 3300 m asl display a certain resemblance to the fynbos of South Africa. The Proteaceae family is here represented by Protea kilimanjarica: the release of the seeds from the fruit, and therefore reproduction, is facilitated by fires.
