Stretching from the Cape York Peninsula all the way south to the Gold Coast, much of Queensland's shorelines are accompanied by the Great Barrier Reef. Whilst the seaward side of the Great Dividing Range support subtropical and tropical rainforest, the vast interior of the state is arid and sparsely populated.
