Relictic laurel forests occupy the cloud zone on the most humid mountain slopes of the island. On the Anaga peninsula, they mostly occur in the upper parts of the more rain-exposed slopes and near the main ridge, where they alternate with the shrub- and heathlands of the fayal-brezal (shown in the foreground of the scene).
