Garachico | Lava flow of 1706

WI_ctf106.jpg

The lava in the foreground of this photo dates back to an eruption of the Trevejo volcano in 1706. It badly damaged the town of Garachico and completely buried the harbour, at that time the most important of Tenerife. Sea trade shifted to Puerto de la Cruz and never returned to Garachico. On the other hand, the lava increased the land area and formed some natural pools which are now a popular destination for visitors of the area.
