View from the top of the escarpment (Bordeira) across the caldera of Fogo in NE direction to Pico do Fogo (2829 m). This stratovolcano represents the highest peak of Cape Verde and West Africa, and the second highest of Macaronesia. Its main crater last erupted in the 18th Century, whereas more recent eruptions took place at secondary craters, such as in 1951 (Monte Orlando, right centre of the picture), 1995, and 2014/15 (cinder cones and lava flows on the left side).
