Flight São Filipe - Praia. Cidade Velha was founded in 1462 as Ribeira Grande, also the name of the valley at the outlet of which it is located. It is the oldest settlement of Cape Verde and served as its capital until 1770. The place has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2009.
