View of the Ponta de São Lourenço at the easternmost tip of Madeira. This peninsula receives comparatively little rainfall and stands in sharp contrast to the rest of the island. The combination of solidified lava (Basalt, Trachyte) and pyroclastic material, and the abundance of vertical dikes, lend the cliffs their colourful and diverse appearance.
