One of numerous waterfalls in the dense laurel forests (laurisilva) covering much of the humid N slopes of Madeira. These forests, considered to be in a largely natural state, are the largest remnants of a formerly more widespread type of ecosystem, and have been listed as the UNESCO World Heritage Site Laurisilva of Madeira since 1999.
