Sierra Bermeja | Pinus pinaster

Sparse pine forest growing on the peridotite of the Pico de los Reales at approx. 1300 m asl. The Sierra Bermeja forms the largest outcrop of ultrabasic rocks in the western part of Europe. These rocks formed in the Earth's mantle. They were uplifted in the course of subduction processes, and came to the surface as the overlying rocks were eroded.
