This place has been used as a religious site since Roman times. A major mosque was built here in the period of Arab reign. After the Reconquista, a Roman-Catholic cathedral was inserted. Representing one of the largest religious buildings worldwide, this unique complex has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
