View from the bell tower of the Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba in E direction, courtyard in the foreground. A major mosque was built here in the period of Arab reign. After the Reconquista, a Roman-Catholic cathedral was inserted in the middle of the mosque. Representing one of the largest religious buildings worldwide, this unique complex has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984.
