The sharp horizontal vegetation boundary in the right centre of this image marks the level of the former Laguna Jircacocha. It was impacted by an outburst flood of Laguna Palcacocha upstream in 1941, resulting in the breach of the landslide dam (left central background) and, consequently, the disappearance of the lake.
