View before sunset. The Cordillera de la Sal consists of a sequence of clastic and evaporitic sedimentary layers, which evolved in and around an ancient salt flat, and of pyroclastic deposits. The entire package has been tilted and folded due to tectonic compression. In some places, the rock is covered by sand dunes.
