The dam retaining the lake most likely represents a landslide deposit (release area: the peak in the centre of the photo), even though it was interpreted as a glacial deposit earlier. Portillo is one of the most famous ski resorts of the Southern Hemisphere. It hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships 1966.
