PN Conguillío | Araucaria trees and Volcán Villarrica

View from the slopes of Sierra Nevada to the 2860 m high active stratovolcano. The conspicious trees in the foreground are monkey puzzle trees (Araucaria araucana, pehuén), a very particular representative of the southern conifers. The species is very old and therefore often called a living fossil. It is native to a relatively small area in the Andes of the Sur Chico of Chile and adjacent Argentina.
