At the time shown, this outlet glacier of the Southern Patagonian Ice Field is 250 square km large and 30 km long. It calves into Lago Argentino along an ice front of 5 km length which sometimes impounds one lake branch (Brazo Rico, left side), leading to episodic breakthroughs. This photo was taken few weeks prior to such a breakthrough.
