View from the slopes of the Red Crater. Strictly speaking, the 2291 m high volcano just represents a secondary cone of Mt. Tongariro. However, it displays the classic shape of a stratovolcano and served as the model for the fictious Mt. Doom in the film trilogy Lord of the Rings.
