Kauri (Agathis australis, Araucariaceae) is considered one of the most ancient tree species. Formerly more widespread in new Zealand's North, its habitat has been reduced in size by human intervention. Tane Mahuta (Lord of the Forest) is the largest known kauri tree (51 m high). It is more than 1000, maybe even more than 2000 years old.
