The northeastern slopes of Kaua'i are fully exposed to the tradewinds. This area is humid all year round, receiving several metres of rainfall every year. The meteo station on top of Mt. Wai'ale'ale (1569 m), hidden in clouds, is often cited as one of the wettest spots on earth, with more than 11 m of average annual rainfall.
