Kalapana | Lava entering the sea

The Pu'u 'Ō'ō cone in the East Rift Zone of the shield volcano of Kīlauea has been developing and continuously erupting since 1983, having produced some cubic kilometres of lava covering more than 100 square kilometres. This image shows lava flows entering the sea, producing a substantial amount of steam.
