Lake Geneva with Château de Chillon

This site near the E end of Lake Geneva had some strategic importance already in Roman times. The castle was built in the medieval period. Over the centuries, it was used as a residence, a prison, and a depot for weapons. Today, it represents a very popular tourist destination.
