The Roman Catholic Mariazell Basilica is the most important pilgrimage destination in Austria, and one of the most important in Europe. The church was built in the 14th century in Gothic style (indicated by the central tower), and extended and modified in the 17th century in Baroque style (the lateral towers give evidence of this modification).
