View from Plaza de Oriente in W direction. The Royal Palace of Madrid is the official residence of the Spanish Royal Family. However, in the early 21st Century they do not live here, but mainly use the palace for state ceremonies. The building was constructed in the mid 18th Century on the site of two earlier fortresses.
