The 2016 Kaikōura Earthquake triggered tens of thousands of landslides, some of which formed landslide dams. The 6-8 million m³ Leader landslide was one of them, impounding Lake Rebecca. The dam has not completely failed by 2026, but the waterfall shown in this scene retrogressively erodes into the landslide deposit.
