Basel | Marktplatz with Rathaus

WI_ch068_501.jpg

The city hall of Basel, located at the central square, dates from the early 16th century. It was constructed at the site of an older building of the same function destroyed by the 1356 Basel Earthquake. The tower was built around 1900. Both the city hall and the square still serve for their original function (Marktplatz means market square).
