Pointe de l'Espiguette is a large dune system stretching for 18 km between the Mediterranean Sea and the lagoons and salt marshes of the Rhône Delta. When the Espiguette Lighthouse was put into operation in 1869, it was 150 m away from the sea. This distance has increased to 700 m in the early 21st century due to silting.
