The small town of Le Grau-du-Roi extends between lagoons, salt marshes, and the Mediterranean Sea. River courses in that area changed frequently in past centuries, before regulation measures were taken. The foreground of this scene shows the Vidourle, one of those now channelized rivers. The lighthouse has been in operation since 1828.
