Lago Llanquihue and Volcán Osorno

WI_ch230_302.jpg

Late afternoon view from Playa Ensenada across the E-most part of Lago Llanquihue to the glacier-covered summit area of Osorno (2652 m). This stratovolcano, which last erupted in 1849, has evolved in a large caldera of an older, mostly eroded volcano. The lake, one of the largest of Chile, fills a depression left by a Pleistocene glacier.
