The volcanic zone of La Garrotxa consists of lava flows and around 40 cones, which formed in the last 700,000 years. One of the youngest and most well-shaped of those cones is the Santa Margarida volcano in the right centre of this photo, which goes back to an eruption approx. 11,500 years ago. Volcà del Puig de la Costa and Volcà del Croscat appear on the left side and in the left central background, whereas the town of Olot can be seen in the left background.
