The volcanic zone of La Garrotxa consists of lava flows and around 40 cones, which formed in the last 700,000 years. One of the youngest and most well-shaped cones is the Santa Margarida volcano in the centre of this picture. It goes back to an eruption approx. 11,500 years ago.
