Alpstein with Berggasthaus Alter Säntis and Seealpsee

WI_ch089_461.jpg

View from Säntis (2502 m) over the Alpstein in NE direction. This mountain range consists of a sequence of hard limestone and softer marl layers, all of which formed in the Cretaceous at the N shelf of the Tethys ocean. This so-called Helvetic system is commonly exposed in Switzerland.
