View from Säntis (2502 m) in SE direction to the sequence of hard limestone and softer, more densely vegetated marl layers forming the summits of Fliskopf (2385 m) and Altmann (2435 m). All these rocks formed in the Cretaceous at the N shelf of the Tethys ocean. This so-called Helvetic system is commonly exposed in Switzerland. The Rätikon with Zimba (2643 m, in Austria) is shown in the background of the scene, on the opposite side of the Rhine valley.
