Nagelfluhkette | Rindalphorn

WI_ge001_357_45.jpg

View from Hochgrat along the Nagelfluh chain in NE direction to Rindalphorn (1821 m). This mountain range at the N rim of the Alps consists of conglomerate rocks, locally known as Nagelfluh. They have their origin in sediments transported out of the early Alps which later consolidated, and were folded and tilted due to tectonic forces. It is rather unusual that such molasse rocks form that high mountain ranges.
