The historic centre of Lindau is located on a small island near the shore of Lake Constance. This lion statue, constructed in 1856 at the N side of the harbour entrance, is a major landmark of Lindau. The lion is an important element in the coat of arms of the free state of Bavaria. Mangturm, the former lighthouse, is shown in the background of the scene.
