View from Hochblanken in W direction to Hoher Freschen (2004 m), built of relatively dark, soft, and erodible Cretaceous marlstone, which once formed at the N shelf of the Tethys ocean. This so-called Helvetic system is commonly exposed in Switzerland (Säntis, 2502 m, appears in the back), but is only found in the very W part of Austria.
