View from Diedamskopf in SW direction to Kanisfluh (2044 m), a large outcrop of folded and tilted Jurassic limestone. The darker and more erodible marlstones of Hoher Freschen (2004 m) appear directly behind, in front of Säntis (2502 m, on Swiss territory), partly built of massive Cretaceous limestone. All these rocks formed at the N shelf of the Tethys ocean. This so-called Helvetic system is commonly exposed in Switzerland, but only found in the very W part of Austria.
