Late afternoon view from Stadtschrofen over Feldkirch with the Ill river in N direction. Protected by hills and located at the junction of important traffic routes, the evolving settlement had already been equipped with the rights of a town by the early 13th century. It still represents one of the most important urban centres in the province of Vorarlberg. The well-preserved old town and the Schattenburg (shown on the right side of the scene) remind of earlier times.
