This highland lake at an elevation of 788 m asl. is impounded by a lava flow. The gnarled tree in the foreground is an Azores juniper (Juniperus brevifolia). The ridge in the background of the image, partly obscured by clouds, belongs to the Topo mountain (1008 m), summit of the oldest of the three volcanic systems building up the island.
