The photo was taken less than two days after a rock avalanche had detached from the highly unstable slopes of Piz Linard, narrowly missing the built-up area. As the event had been expected, the village and its surroundings had been evacuated for more than one month. Also Brienz itself is located on a slow-moving landslide.
