Flight Lima - Arequipa, view up the valley of the Río Majes in NE direction. This valley is the continuation of the Colca Canyon (central background of the scene), deeply incised into the uplifting Andes. A volcanic complex, the activity of which strongly interfered with valley incision, is shown in the right background. It includes the extinct Volcán Hualca Hualca (6025 m), the active stratovolcano Sabancaya (5976 m), and the dormant Ampato (6288 m).
