The informal neighbourhoods in the foreground of this image represent pueblos jóvenes ("young villages"), the result of land invasions mainly by people migrating from the countryside to the growing and economically prospering city of Arequipa. Most of the settlement near the bottom of the picture has evolved since 2011 or 2012.
