Machu Picchu with llamas and Huayna Picchu

WI_pe152.jpg

Even though some aspects of its history remain unclear, Machu Picchu is most commonly considered an Inca citadel in operation during the 15th and 16th Century, and has evolved to a major tourist destination over the last decades. Also the llamas in the foreground of the scene are most likely there as a tourist attraction despite, in general, they represent an important livestock in the region. The prominent mountain in the right central background is Huayna Picchu (2693 m).
