View from the vicinity of Chucura over the Altiplano in W direction to the volcanic complex of the dormant Ampato (6288 m), the active stratovolcano Sabancaya (5976 m - the steam plume indicates the early stage of an eruption), and the extinct Volcán Hualca Hualca (6025 m), from left to right. Even though the Altiplano is mostly dry, enough water collects in the valley in the foreground of the scene to support a type of meadow ecosystem known as "vega".
