The informal hillslope neighbourhood in the right portion of this photo represents a pueblo joven ("young village"): its upper part has developed since around 2000. Such kind of land invasions, mainly by people migrating from the countryside to Lima, shift more and more towards the steeper slopes (and the edges of the city), whereas the older settlements (left side of the scene) consolidate over time.
