These stairs lead up to Cerro San Cristobal, a hill near the historic centre of Lima serving as an excellent viewpoint whenever the skies are clear. Use of the stairs is strongly discouraged for security reasons - instead, it is highly recommended to take a taxi or an organized tour to reach the summit.
