View over one of the numerous residential neighbourhoods on the hillslopes of Medellín. Most of these settlements started their existence through land invasions resulting in informal assemblages of very simple buildings. Later on, when the inhabitants managed to earn some money, the quality of the buildings gradually improved, and the neighbourhoods were provided with public services such as electricity and water supply.
