Cauca Valley | Spillway of Hidroituango Dam

The spillway at the bottom of this view belongs to the 225 m high Hidroituango Dam on the Cauca River. Operation of the hydropower plant should have started in late 2018, but a landslide earlier the same year blocked the diversion tunnel. As an emergency measure, the water was led through the power house, causing severe damage there. The dam was completed rapidly, so that the spillway takes all the runoff at the time of the photo, until the start of operation of the power plant.
